America is an irresistible magical country, whether you take the initiative or unintentionally, you can always feel its presence: the Statue of Liberty, the Empire State Building, NBA, Hollywood, McDonald's, Coca Cola... This is a country of freedom, exploration, and innovation.
Influenced by its culture, American architecture is not conservative and strives for progress. From classicism to modernism, architectural styles have distinct characteristics, and architectural masters emerge one after another. From Louis Sullivan, the father of modernist architecture, to Frank Lloyd Wright, Ludwig Mies Van der Rohe, these early American modernist masters, to Frank Gehry, I.M. Pei, SOM, KPF, these avant-garde architects and firms, all from the United States and have left countless classic works.
The two most famous cities in the eastern United States - New York and Chicago - gather the most classic and dazzling modern architecture in the world today. After a month long pre departure preparation, GLA's companions set foot on this land in November and experienced these two cities from zero distance through walking and measuring. They carefully tasted them and thought and summarized their journey after returning, sharing with us the "East American City in the Eyes of Architects".
In these short ten days, we have gained a lot through touch perception, learning recording, and awe thinking, and have a clearer understanding of excellent architectural works. This not only stems from the materials and forms used by architects, but also from their bold ideas and design core, as well as their response and solution strategies to the current social situation.
In the midst of the tide of the times, GLA has always insisted on forming groups to conduct domestic and international architectural study tours and inspections, to have a zero distance perception of classic and excellent architectural works. We have traveled to cities both domestically and internationally, such as Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Singapore, Bangkok, etc., to extensively obtain design information, actively think, summarize, and share, in order to continuously improve our learning and professional abilities. This is the significance of GLA's architectural study tour.
