Launch of the New Issue of “Architectural Practice” on Residential Design and Academic Exchange

Housing and communities are the most authentic—and also the most complex—spatial units of the city. As China’s urbanization enters a new phase characterized by both diversity and tension, “living better” is no longer merely a matter of standards; it has become a question of value judgment and long-term practice.

As a co‑organizer of the “Living Well” special issue of this edition of Architectural Practice, GLA was honored to participate in the launch of the new issue and the accompanying academic exchange. Centered on the dignity of ordinary housing, its long‑term residential value, its contemporaneity, and its reliability, architects and scholars from diverse professional contexts engaged in an in‑depth dialogue. Together with guests including Zhang Jiajing, Jiang Yu (gad), Zhang Xun (goa), Benjamin Warner (RSHP), and others, we explored the pressing questions of contemporary housing—moving from policy frameworks to frontline design, and from individual lived experiences back to the urban scale.
