Nanjing Fangyuan West Road Primary School

Located in Jiangning District of Nanjing, this project is surrounded by dense residential neighborhoods. How to maximize the expansion of campus activity spaces within a relatively constrained site area, seamlessly integrating cultural and sports activities with after-school life into every indoor and outdoor corner, and thereby re-establishing the campus as a vibrant, place-based environment—this became the design’s central premise. By reconfiguring classrooms and communal spaces to support flexible and diverse learning arrangements, and by holistically integrating architectural, educational, and landscape design considerations, the project seeks to make intensive use of the limited site while creating spacious, comfortable interior courtyards wherever possible, so that teachers, students, classrooms, and public spaces coalesce into an organic, unified whole.
