Hangzhou Puyan Middle School

Located in the High-Tech Industrial Development Zone of Hangzhou, this project involves the renovation and expansion of Puyan Middle School. The existing “Zhenpin Building” on the original campus site is to be preserved. The design approach addresses two key aspects: first, leveraging the specific site conditions to employ a landscape-oriented design strategy that articulates the relationship between the preserved building and the new construction, thereby creating a richly varied spatial experience characterized by meandering pathways and ever-changing vistas; second, in response to changes in the site’s elevation, the design proposes a partial demolition and adaptive reuse of the original “Zhenpin Building,” seamlessly integrating it with the new structures to endow it with new functions and transform it into an open, flexible communal hub for the entire campus.
