Located in Xi’an Airport New City, this project sits on the banks of the Wei River, where the millennia-old ancient city is now brimming with new vitality and dynamism. Starting from XIN, this design seeks to break new ground in both façade aesthetics and spatial experience.
I. Color Palette: Unlike the typical golden-yellow tones of residential projects in the same region—evocative of the Loess Plateau—this project employs a sophisticated combination of silver, gray, and dark gray, creating an overall light, refined, and elegant aesthetic. The subtle gradations of light and shade echo the interplay of form and shadow, much like the fluid, diffused ink washes in traditional Chinese painting: distinct layers yet seamlessly integrated.
II. Composition with XIN: The design features a continuous eave aesthetic that runs throughout the entire community, subtly evoking the image of the double-eaved Big Wild Goose Pagoda—yet rendered in a far more slender and airy form. Vertical lines are strategically introduced on select facade sections, fully highlighting the compositional beauty of modern architecture. As time passes, light and shadow shift accordingly. In the high-rise residential buildings, horizontal elongated lines and ultra-wide glass curtain walls convey a pure, transparent, and minimalist aesthetic; meanwhile, the staggered balcony arrangements feature full-height openings, with varying lengths and offsets in the horizontal lines, creating a rhythmic yet dynamic effect.
III. XIN for Spatial Design: In the community’s public spaces, landscaped courtyards evoking the elegant charm of Jiangnan are thoughtfully arranged at the north and south entrances, featuring pavilions, flowing water features, and lush vegetation that softly frames the scenery. In the central garden, the uniformity of spatial circulation is deliberately disrupted through the strategic use of terraced levels with varying elevations, creating a dynamic interplay of rises and falls that offers ever-changing vistas with every step. Within the unit designs, the interior living room is conceived as a double-height space, seamlessly connecting with the corresponding double-height balcony, thereby empowering residents with greater spatial flexibility and creative possibilities.
On a single night, the spring breeze blossoms thousands of trees—yet here in Jinlu, a unique Jiangnan unfolds. Through design, the timeless beauty of Jiangnan is brought into the rugged, robust landscape of Guanzhong, allowing contrasting aesthetic sensibilities to collide and harmonize. Perhaps this is where the true joy and fulfillment of design lie.
