The design scope for the Dongmingshan Forest Park Visitor Center and “Dongmingshan·Bamboo Whisper” encompasses the scenic area’s original entrance as well as several scattered ancillary buildings in the surrounding vicinity. Upon first arriving on site, confronted with a landscape where aging structures lie in need of repair amid lush, thriving vegetation, the architects’ initial task was to consider how to breathe new life into these elements—hidden within the forest and enveloped by their building envelopes. Guided by the visitor experience, the design team made full use of the existing built fabric to streamline visitor circulation, while adhering to the principles of “light intervention” and “reclaiming the site’s memory” throughout the design process and construction oversight. The ultimate aspiration is to create a renewed setting in which people and nature coexist more harmoniously within transitional spaces—not merely to transform the architecture itself.
