The project is located in Nansha District, Guangzhou. Historically, Nansha was an ancient bay where the sea stretched endlessly to the horizon and islands and hills were scattered across the landscape. Over countless cycles of marine transgression and regression, sand and silt accumulated, gradually forming a broad, gently undulating alluvial plain. Through master-planning and architectural design, we aim to emulate the natural texture of this alluvial plain. In addition, by drawing on the prototypical spatial configurations of Lingnan gardens—while integrating their associated site-specific qualities and activities—we seek to translate these elements into a contemporary context and embed modern living scenarios within them. By extending and articulating the boundaries of the site, we weave these spatial archetypes into a series of inward- and outward-protruding “folds,” creating inviting spaces for people to pause, rest, and linger—thus rekindling the vibrant, everyday energy of Guangzhou’s traditional neighborhoods.
